The German field handball championship 1960 was played in a final tournament from September 25 to October 16, 1960. The tournament was the eleventh championship round in men's field handball organized by the DHB . The final took place on October 16, 1960 in front of 25,000 spectators in Oberhausen's Niederrhein stadium.

The new German champion was surprisingly TSV 1860 Ansbach , who won the final against defending champion TuS Lintfort with a score of 10: 9. Ansbach won the field handball title for the first time in the club's history.

In addition, the 16th team came third in the Southwest German regional championship, Kickers Offenbach , who had prevailed against the Berlin runner-up Berliner SV 1892 in a qualifying game on September 18, 1960 18:11.

Tournament course

Apart from the final success of the South German champions, the tournament held no surprises in store, the favored teams clearly prevailed in their preliminary and intermediate round games, and except for TuS Lintfort, who won the first round in Hildesheim, none of the away teams could competing teams win their game. It stayed that way in the semi-finals: The North German champions from Wolfsburg couldn't win in Ansbach, and Frisch Auf Göppingen, the indoor handball champion of the season, was eliminated in Lintfort.

The Ansbacher won the final because they showed greater fighting power in the end. With the quartet of the siblings Konrad Porzner , Heinz Porzner, Helmut Porzner and Erwin Porzner , who was also the team's coach, the outsider was consistently behind Lintfort by one or two goals, with a score of 5: 8 in the 39th minute that seemed Game decided for Lintfort as expected. In the following 20 minutes, however, only the South German champions played, who scored another five goals and did not allow themselves to be irritated when Erwin Porzner could not convert a penalty with a score of 7: 9.
