German field handball championship 1974

The German field handball championship 1975 was played in the summer of 1975 in a final tournament of the regional champions. The tournament was the 25th and last championship round in field handball for men organized by the DHB . On August 10, 1975, the final took place in Lübbecke in front of 6,000 spectators, the venue was the Lübbecke stadium in Obernfelder Allee.

The last German champion was surprisingly TSG Haßloch , who narrowly won against the favored TuS Nettelstedt in its own stadium with 15:14 and thus won the first championship title in the club's history.

Since 1921 field handball championships had been held in various associations, since 1934 there had been German championships in a unified association; since the 1947 season there had been German championships of the DAH / DHB. But after field handball had long been meaningless internationally and the German handball association (DHV) no longer held a championship in the GDR , the end was in sight; With this championship round in 1975, the national history of field handball came to an end for West Germany too.

mode

As in the previous season, a final round of the regional associations was organized like between 1947 and 1966. The champions of the five regional associations (Berlin: Landesverband) played the German championship among themselves in a simple knockout round . First, the number of participants was reduced to four through a qualification game, the winning teams of the two subsequent semi-finals played the final; no further placement games were carried out.

The following five regional association champions were qualified to participate:

ATSV habenhausen (North German champion)
TuS Nettelstedt (West German Master)
TSG Haßloch (Southwest German Champion)
TSV 1895 Oftersheim (South German Champion)
Reinickendorfer Füchse (Berlin Masters)

Tournament course

Everything was actually prepared for the Nettelstedter's first title win with the final in their own stadium. After the spectacular change of club of the outstanding single player of the 1960s, Herbert Lübking , who came to TuS Nettelstedt from local rivals TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen in 1970 and thus from the Bundesliga to the district class, the Nettelstedt were promoted year after year to the regional league at that time the second highest division in indoor handball - and in field handball after the abolition of the Bundesliga in 1973 the highest division. Besides Lübking, other national players had joined the club, and the 1975 field championship could be seen as a mere formality for the club of the "Foreign Legionaries" (Hamburger Abendblatt), given that the strong Bundesliga clubs had long since concentrated on indoor handball alone.

Against the Reinickendorfer Füchse in the semifinals, Nettelstedt left no doubt about the favorite position and won, while Haßloch prevailed with difficulty in the other semifinal game against the South German champions. The final also began appropriately, Nettelstedt quickly led 5: 1 and 7: 3, but Haßloch was able to catch up before half-time. Part of Haßloch's recipe for success was that Lübking could be taken under cover and neutralized, he only managed a single goal.
