Tony Tollet

Jean Jules Antoine Tollet , called Tony Tollet (born November 6, 1857 in Lyon , Département Rhône , † January 25, 1953 ) was a French painter.

Live and act

Tollet received his first artistic lessons in his hometown. At the age of sixteen Tollet came to Paris in 1873 and was accepted at the École des Beaux-Arts (EBA). His teachers were mostly Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889), Jean-Baptiste Danguin (1823-1894) and Michel Dumas (1812-1885).

Tollet soon returned to his hometown as his mother was dying. In 1890 he married Jeanne Pailleux there and had six children with her. He opened a large atelier in which he repeatedly taught students.

He had been a member of the Société des Beaux-Arts for a long time when he was appointed president there in 1923. Between 1928 and 1929 he was also head of the Académie de Lyon .

Tollet died on January 25, 1953 in his hometown, where he found his final resting place.

Tollet found his own style early on and is an important representative of the Lyon school .
