Handball rules
One of the tasks of the IHF is the definition and temporary adaptation of the handball rules , for which it has set up a rules committee. The current rules have been in effect since August 2010 and represent a slightly revised version of the 2005 rules in some points. They regulate the behavior of all those involved (players, officials, timekeepers and referees ) during the game and the technical requirements for conducting a game.
Basic rules were first summarized in Denmark in 1898 by Holger Louis Nielsen and refined in 1917/19 in Germany by Carl Schelenz . After them, international games were held in Europe from 1925. In 1926 the International Association of Athletics Federations nominated a committee to revise them, after which Berlin organized the 1936 Olympic Games and the International Amateur Handball Federation organized the 1938 World Cup, which then took place every three to four years. Handball was also part of the canceled 1940 Tokyo Games. After Tokyo withdrew and Helsinki stepped in for a short time, most ball sports, including handball, were canceled. In 1952, field handball was held as a demonstration between Denmark and Sweden. Indoor handball was originally intended for the 1964 Games (there were already plans and a pictogram), but was then dropped in favor of volleyball. It was finally introduced in Munich in 1972 at the instigation of Germany, Scandinavia and the Eastern Bloc.
