The 2nd division is the third highest Danish league in football.

history

It was founded after the Second World War in 1945 as the second highest division. In 1991, after the Superliga was founded, it became the third highest division. From 2005 the 2nd division was held in two groups (east and west) of 16 teams each.

In 2015, the number of teams represented in the 2nd division was reduced from 32 to 24, divided into three groups of eight teams each. Since 2018, 24 teams have been playing in two seasons with 12 teams each.

Game mode

Each team plays a home and away game against the other teams in the group. The six best placed in the two groups play the two promoted players in the 1st division in a joint round-trip . The six last placed determine the four relegated to the Danmark series in a joint round-trip .
