Anthony Deane (born July 3, 1984 in Hornsby ) is an Australian handball player and skeleton pilot .
Deane lives in Sydney and is a distant relative of William Patrick Deane . He started playing handball at the age of 16.
As a semi-professional he played for Ikast FS in Europe .
For Australia's national team , he played more than 30 games and scored more than 70 goals. He took part in the men's handball world championship in Germany in 2007 , but was eliminated in the preliminary round after three defeats with Australia.
In 2009 Deane switched to skeleton to try to participate in an individual sport in the Olympic Games . He is trained by Rebecca Sorensen and Brian MacDonald. He did not begin the sport until January of that year and drove his first race in the Skeleton America's Cup in Lake Placid in April and immediately finished tenth. Deane's international breakthrough in the sport came in the 2009/10 season when he won two America's Cup races in Calgary .
