The Štadión pod Dubňom ( German : Stadium below the Dubeň , also known as Štadión MŠK Žilina ) is a football stadium in the northern Slovak city of Žilina . It is the home of the MŠK Žilina football club . The namesake is the mountain Dubeň ( 613  m nm ) north of the city.

history

The sports facility was opened in 1941, then still as Všešportový areál (German: Allsport-Areal); however, the field has been in use since the establishment of the MŠK Žilina football club in 1909. The stadium is located about 1 km north of the city center between the Žilina train station and the Váh River ; the longest river in Slovakia. In the game Slovakia - Dynamo Moscow (1: 1) in 1953, the audience record of 25,000 visitors was achieved. The capacity today is 11,313 covered seats (including 1,607 VIP seats, 40 handicapped-accessible seats, 102 journalist and commentator seats (expandable to 140) and 128 box seats). The floodlight system provides up to 1,400 lux . The stadium is classified in UEFA stadium category 3 and is considered to be one of the most modern stadiums in Slovakia.

The first renovation work took place in 2002, when the MŠK Žilina became Slovak champion ; A floodlight system with four masts was installed, each standing in the corners of the stadium. In 2006, extensive construction work began on the auditorium, and turf heating was also installed; After the completion of the renovation work in September 2009, there is still an option to expand to 15,000 seats. In May 2011 the Sport7.sk portal named the facility the most beautiful stadium in Slovakia.

The MŠK Žilina qualified for the first time in 2010 for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and thus for the first time the games of the highest European competition took place in the Štadión pod Dubňom.
