The Národný futbalový štadión (NFŠ, German  "National Football Stadium" ) is a football stadium in the northern Nové Mesto district of the Slovak capital, Bratislava . The new national stadium was built on the site of the old Štadión Tehelné pole ( German  "Stadion Ziegelfeld" ), which was the home of the ŠK Slovan Bratislava football club and the Slovak national football team until 2009 . They are also the main users of the new arena. The new football arena was built by the construction company Strabag SE . From the closure to the opening of the new venue, Slovan played his home games in the Štadión Pasienky , the stadium of city rivals Inter Bratislava . It is a few hundred meters to the northeast. Another nearby sports facility is the Zimný štadión Ondreja Nepelu ice rink south of the new building.

history

The Tehelné pole was completed in 1940, was obsolete in the late 2000s and was closed. Demolition of the stadium began in July 2013. A new UEFA stadium category 4 football stadium should be built on the site by 2016 at the latest . The capacity was designed for 22,500 spectators and the costs should amount to 70 million euros. The new building was financed on the one hand by the entrepreneur and co-owner of the ŠK Slovan Bratislava, Ivan Kmotrík , who u. a. Owner of the news channel TA3 and LED - lighting manufacturer OMS Lighting is. The Slovak state contributed 27.2 million euros to the new national stadium through a funding project.

The demolition work was completed in October 2013. After tough negotiations about the long-term lease for the property, which is partially in a nature reserve , work was suspended for around a year. On December 8, 2014, construction began on the new national stadium. In addition to the stadium, a hotel , apartments , office space and a shopping center are part of the scope of the construction work in order to cover the costs of the construction. After the delays, the target handover date for the new building was set for December 31, 2017.

After further delays, it was announced at the beginning of September 2016 that work on the national stadium, which would cost around 50 million euros, would start in the coming weeks. A year and a half (76 weeks) were planned for the construction. The completion date was calculated for summer 2018.

Construction work was well advanced in mid-2018. The two double-storey grandstand rings made of finished concrete parts were erected and the load-bearing steel roof structure was largely built in. A corner of the stadium next to the main stand was left out. A tower was built there that is used as a hotel. A similar stadium concept with a tower was implemented at the WEB Arena in Moscow . Completion was expected at the end of 2018. According to estimates in the final accounts, the new building should cost EUR 75.2 million

The stadium is 188 meters long and 144 meters wide. The height is 24.5 meters. The arched facade and roof construction on the three sides of the stadium can be illuminated with different colors. The plastic seats in the stands are held in different shades of blue . Furthermore, it was equipped with the latest technology. Wireless internet access is available in the stadium . There are electronic turnstiles at the entrances . The interior of the NFŠ can be controlled with the video surveillance system . Studios were set up for television broadcasts. The venue has boxes , a lounge , a fan shop for the national team and an underground car park with 996 parking spaces. In an emergency, the fully occupied stadium can be cleared in five minutes.

On January 16, 2019, a test game as well as a test run with a limited number of visitors took place. Slovan lost 2: 3 to the Czech club SK Sigma Olomouc . The inauguration could be celebrated in spring. For the opening game at the National Stadium on March 3rd, Slovan Bratislava faced rivals from Spartak Trnava in a derby ( Tradičné derby ) . In front of a sold out house, Slovan won the premiere on the 21st day of the Fortuna League with 2-0. The striker Andraž Šporar scored both goals .
