from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GoVolunteer is an online community founded in Germany for volunteer work . The social start-up places volunteers in charitable projects and organizations. On the website govolunteer.com, interested parties can search for opportunities to get involved and filter them by location, time, language and interests. Currently (spring 2018) more than 3,000 charitable initiatives and events in over 100 cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are represented on the website. Most of the projects have a focus on integration work and refugee aid.

Integration initiatives and projects that are part of the community are supported in their work with volunteers, project organization and communication. GoVolunteer supports diversity and engagement in society through public relations.

tasks and goals

GoVolunteer wants to make volunteer work for people and organizations simple, transparent and flexible. The aim of the social start-up is to network the actors involved in working with refugees and volunteers . This results in two main areas of responsibility:

GoVolunteer wants to:

  • Motivate people for social engagement and make it easier to start volunteering with more transparency and less bureaucracy
  • Social initiatives facilitate the implementation of voluntary projects, especially in the area of integration work
  • Enable refugees and migrants to have an easier start in work and society through voluntary work
  • Actively introduce companies and their employees to the perception of social responsibility
  • Social rethinking motivates towards a participatory society in which everyone helps shape the community through personal commitment

According to its own information (as of February 2016), GoVolunteers has the vision of radically simplifying refugee aid. GoVolunteer should become the central coordination platform for refugee aid in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

organization

In the course of the refugee crisis in 2015, GoVolunteer founder and management consultant Malte Needftig experienced a high level of willingness to get involved in his environment, both among locals and the refugees themselves. At times he coordinated over 150 helpers in Berlin. However, there was a lack of transparency about the existing employment opportunities and needy recognized the challenge of coordinating volunteers and offers at the same time. So he came up with the idea of networking volunteers and initiatives in integration work with a central service. A first executable version of the platform was developed with the support of McKinsey Digital Labs. At the end of 2015, the govolunteer.com community went online. A little later, Henryk Seeger joined the team, who is still running the social start-up on a voluntary basis alongside Malte Needy. Seeger is also a co-founder of the successful donation campaign “ Germany rounds up ”.
