Deutschland rounds up (spelling "DEUTSCHLAND RUNDET AUF") is a donation campaign by Germany rounds up Gemeinnützige Stiftungs-GmbH based in Berlin . The campaign was founded in March 2012 by Christian Vater, Matthias Dammann and Henryk Seeger and co-financed by the “Social Venture Fund”.

Customers at retail will have the opportunity for participating companies, "please round up" by the words the final amount to a maximum of 10 during the payment cents be rounded up . This amount is transferred to the Deutschland rounds auf Gemeinnützige Stiftungs-GmbH in Berlin and, according to its own statements, 100 percent is passed on to projects for socially disadvantaged children in Germany.

In terms of eligibility for funding, the focus is on scaling successful regional or national projects for socially disadvantaged children in Germany, i. H. to expand further. This is followed by a selection by an expert committee consisting of Sebastian Braun, Inge Kloepfer , Wolfgang Meyer-Hesemann , Roland Roth and Helmut Schneider , as well as an impact analysis by the analysis and consulting company PHINEO gAG . The decision on the award is made by the Board of Trustees , to which u. a. Simone Bagel-Trah , Marcel Fratzscher and Stefan Genth belong. Germany rounds up funding the projects for a specific purpose, according to pre-defined interim goals and funding purposes and for a funding period of at least one year. The funding amount per project is different, currently it is between 200,000 and 300,000 euros.

Germany rounds up consists of the two companies Deutschland rounds up Gemeinnützige Stiftungs-GmbH and the 100% subsidiary Germany rounds up Partner GmbH .

The foundation manages the rounded up donations. The Partner GmbH carries out the operative business and is financed by fees of the participating trading partners, which they pay to the Partner GmbH depending on their turnover. It is between 999 euros and 99,999 euros. In addition, the foundation can make use of pro bono services .

Effects

According to a study by the management consultancy OC&C from October 2013, it shows that 21 percent of those who do not have donated before. The campaign also reaches significantly younger donors - 43 percent of the donors are under 39 years of age. In contrast, according to the GFK market research institute, only 15 percent of all private donors can be assigned to this young donor group.

criticism

Critics complain that customers can come under “societal and moral” pressure if they do not want to appear “petty” at the till, given the maximum donation amount of 10 cents.
