Wolfgang Meyer-Hesemann (born October 20, 1952 in Quakenbrück ) is a German politician and photographer . From 2005 to 2009 he was State Secretary in the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education and Women and previously State Secretary in North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein. Since the beginning of 2011, he has been the successor to Björn Engholm, chairman of the Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein e. V and works as a freelance photographer.

Life

After studying law and completing his doctorate, Meyer-Hesemann worked as a judge at the Münster Administrative Court . In 1984 he joined the administration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and from 1989 was office manager of the then head of the State Chancellery Wolfgang Clement . From 1993 to 1995 he represented the Prime Minister and later Federal President Johannes Rau as a personal representative in the North Rhine-Westphalia Education Commission “Future of Education - School of the Future” in order to subsequently become department head in the Ministry for Schools and Further Education. He held this position until his appointment as State Secretary in 1998.

Meyer-Hesemann is married and has one daughter.

State Secretary

From 1998 Meyer-Hesemann was State Secretary in the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry for Schools and Further Education, Science and Research and from 2002 in the Ministry for School, Youth and Children. In March 2003 he moved to Schleswig-Holstein, where he became State Secretary for Schools and Children in the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Culture. After the red-green state government under Heide Simonis ( SPD ) was voted out and the CDU-SPD government under Peter Harry Carstensen ( CDU ) was formed with a different departmental structure, Meyer-Hesemann became State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Women in April 2005.

In the wake of the breakup of the grand coalition in July 2009, all SPD ministers were dismissed from their posts on July 20, 2009. On July 23, 2009, Meyer-Hesemann and all other state secretaries in previously SPD-led ministries were also given the same fate, they were put into temporary retirement.

Since 2011, Wolfgang Meyer-Hesemann has taken over the chairmanship of the Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein eV from Björn Engholm. He now works as a freelance photographer.
