Bunt kickt gut ( original spelling buntkicktgut ) is an integration initiative founded in 1996. The aim of the intercultural street football league for children and young people is to connect children, young people and adults of different cultural and social origins in a playful way .

Emergence

Buntkicktgut was created in 1996 during the wave of refugees in Munich triggered by the war in Yugoslavia as an initiative of three refugee officers. With their youth teams “Harras Bulls” and “Weigl Heroes” from two communal accommodations, they laid the foundation for a first division in the U14 age group . The initiators primarily wanted to use football to break down and loosen intercultural and linguistic barriers among young people. The “ refugee league” grew, more and more teams formed and played along. It has been running under the name buntkicktgut since 1998.

In the period that followed, the project grew, so that in 2015 in Munich alone, over 2,500 participants played in over 250 teams from over 100 different countries of origin. The league was originally supported by the refugee office of the city of Munich, today by the initiative group - Intercultural Encounter and Education e. V. with the support of the city youth welfare office and the office for housing and migration of the state capital.

In the meantime, over 4,000 children and young people across Germany take part in buntkickgut every year, taking part in a total of over 50 training units per week and 250 game days per year. They play in six age groups: U11, U13, U15, U17, Ü17 / senior and ladies, the goal is to qualify for the "Champions League", which has been held as the final round since April 2006 according to the motto: "Show us your stadium" - with changing venues throughout the city. Since 1997, over 40,000 children and young people from over 100 countries of origin have taken part.

Locations

In addition to the Munich location, as of 2016 there are street football leagues using this method in Düsseldorf , Dortmund , Berlin-Neukölln , Berlin-Kreuzberg , Basel , Würzburg , and Lower Bavaria (with Straubing, Dingolfing, Landshut and others).

target

Through football, the children and young people come into contact with other children of German and foreign origin. In addition to the preventive effect on juvenile delinquency and the handling of violence, the project objective is the development of perspectives and the promotion of educational and training bases for young people who grow up under difficult social or economic conditions. Team sports should serve as a catalyst to reduce aggression and frustration and promote interactive and cooperative social behavior.

Participation formats

buntkicktgut offers various participation formats in addition to the street football leagues.

Street Football Work

Street football workers train with the teams in neighborhoods with hot spots. Street football workers are mostly young people who know the league, play football themselves and have made the leap from socially difficult circumstances.

League Council

The league council draws up rules, ensures that the participants and the teams comply with the rules, resolves conflicts during the season, decides on bans and other sanctions. In Munich, for example, it consists of the official buntkicktgut referees (arbitrators).

buntkicker

The street soccer magazine “buntkicker” is created online and as a print edition by a youth editorial team and serves not only to identify and raise awareness, but also to achieve educational goals. Here young people write match reports, interviews, reports, team or player portraits from the league.

Learning camps

In addition to the continuous league operation, buntkicktgut offers additional holiday offers with various cooperation partners. The “buntkochtgut” program is a football nutrition workshop in which children between the ages of 11 and 13 cook together and learn about healthy eating. Another program is language tuition for primary school children, from which children with a migration background in particular benefit.

Referee

Participating children and adolescents can get involved as referees during match days and in tournaments on the pitch.

Selection teams

Special talents from buntkicktgut can play for a selection team from the intercultural street football leagues. Each buntkicktgut location has a selection team that goes into action at events and international viewing tournaments (such as the FC Bayern Youth Cup from FC Bayern Munich ).

Refugee work

The Street Football Worker (SFW) from buntkicktgut organize and also offer training units for refugees. In and around Munich alone, there are 30 training units a week with 400 to 600 mostly unaccompanied refugee minors . At other locations as well, buntkicktgut is asking street football workers for sports activities with immigrant young people.

Tournaments

In addition to the regular league operations, buntkicktgut organizes different tournaments every year (so-called "buntkicktgut-open"), which are open to teams that do not participate in regular league operations. These include, for example, the League Cups or the UniCredit Cup. In 2015, the tournament winners of the buntkicktgut open were able to qualify for the “Road to Berlin” on the Corso Leopold street festival and take part in the Street Champions Cup there in the ministerial gardens. In 2015, the CrossCultureCup also took place in front of the Brandenburg Gate during “Champions Week”, during which politicians, celebrities and former soccer professionals formed individual teams with players from buntkicktgut.

Camps and youth encounters

Camps, excursions, trips and youth exchanges offer children and young people the opportunity to think outside the box, to open up new horizons and contacts, and form an irreplaceable learning field for identification, team spirit and social responsibility.

Sport and development

buntkicktgut supports its players not only in Germany, but also in their commitment in and for their countries of origin. The potential for cooperation between diaspora / migrant organizations and civil society actors as role models in Germany and in their countries of origin is immense. Since 2010, buntkicktgut has been involved in the city of Sokodé in Togo, West Africa. Sokodé is the hometown of long-time player and current buntkicktgut employee Oussman Kofia. Since 2011 he has been showing his home to the buntkicktgut players every year as part of the regional cultural festival “Festekpé” and the soccer tournament “Coupe de l'amité”. The city has officially been one of the buntkicktgut locations since 2015.
