The Holacanthida are an order of unicellular , marine organisms from the group of Acantharia .
description
The skeletons of the Holacanthida have only 10 spines, in contrast to those of all other Acantharia species, there are always 20. The spines can be of equal or unequal length and cross or collide in the middle of the cell.
The endoplasm contains numerous cell nuclei and is pigmented , the ectoplasm is clearer, less granular and resembles a gelatinous membrane. Endo- and ectoplasm are not sharply separated from one another, but rather merge into one another. The capsule wall that vaguely separates them lies close to the periplasmic cortex and can hardly be seen with a light microscope. In the cytoplasm there are numerous, stimulus- sensitive, thin axonemes . The muonemes are flat.
