Class2000

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klasse2000 is a teaching program for health promotion , addiction and violence prevention at German primary and special schools . The sponsor is the non-profit association Programm Klasse 2000 eV based in Nuremberg . The program is considered the most widespread prevention program for primary school children in Germany.

backgrounds

Klasse2000 was developed in 1991 by doctors and educators at the Nuremberg Clinic . Research results and theories from areas such as developmental psychology , resilience , learning theory or self-management were used, while theories from violence prevention only played a subordinate role.

Starting from Bavaria, Klasse2000 started in 1991 with 234 classes and spread nationwide. The program is now represented in all federal states. In the 2015/2016 school year, the program reached 3,516 schools across Germany with 19,409 classes and 438,225 children. That was 14.4% of all primary school classes in Germany. Since the program started in 1991, it has reached over 1.3 million children. The program has been supported by a non-profit association since 2003 and is financed through donations and grants, mostly in the form of sponsorships (220 euros per class and school year). Since 2005, the Verein Programm Klasse 2000 eV has had the donation seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues . The registered association is a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .

Content

Klasse2000 accompanies the children from grades one to four. Together with the symbolic figure KLARO, the children get to know the following topics in a playful way:

  • Eat & drink healthily
  • Move & relax
  • Like yourself & have friends
  • Solve problems & conflicts
  • Think critically & say no

The contents are conveyed to the students as part of regular lessons, with around nine to 13 units per school year being provided by the teachers and two to three additional units by specially trained so-called Class 2000 health promoters. There is no separate training for the teachers, they are given extensive material and they work closely with a health promoter. Every year, participating classes receive a material package with teachers and pupils 'books, parents' newspapers, posters, CDs and other materials. In the units, the students should have a positive attitude towards body and health, knowledge about healthy eating, exercise and relaxation, as well as competencies in the area of conflict resolution. The central aspects also include the critical examination of alcohol, tobacco and advertising.

effect

According to an effectiveness study for Hessen published by the Institute for Therapy and Health Research in Kiel (IFT-Nord) in 2012 , the program has long-term effects on the consumption of alcohol and cigarettes by young people. At the end of the 7th grade, the former Grade 2000 children smoke less and drink less alcohol. 7.9% of the Klasse2000 group have smoked before, compared to 19.7% in the control group. The comparison of the young people who have already secretly drunk alcohol shows that the Class 2000 children consume significantly less than the control group. They have been drunk less often and their regular alcohol consumption is significantly below that of the control group. A study by Bielefeld University examined class 2000 children from 2013–15 and a control group from class 1–3 (randomized study). The focus of the interviews with children, parents and teachers was the children's eating habits and physical activity. It was compared whether attitudes, knowledge and behavior improved, deteriorated or remained stable between the 1st and 3rd grade. For the criteria of healthy eating "5 servings of fruit and vegetables per day" and "a maximum of one serving of sweets per day" there was greater deterioration in the control group than in the class 2000 children. The consumption of fast food, sweets and soft drinks increased more in the control group. There was also an effect on exercise behavior: children in the control group switched to a passive way to school (e.g. by car) more often than the Class 2000 children. Klasse2000 is continuously evaluated in order to gain insight into the implementation and effectiveness of the program. Every school year teachers, pupils, parents or health promoters receive questionnaires about their experiences and satisfaction with Klasse2000. On this basis, the concept and lessons are continuously updated and adapted.
