The Wenko Wenselaar GmbH & Co. KG (proper spelling: WENKO-Wenselaar GmbH & Co. KG) is a late 1950s company, established housewares manufactures and distributes. In particular, it manufactures products for the bathroom, kitchen, laundry and living space.

The company employs around 420 people worldwide and has had its headquarters in Hilden near Düsseldorf since 1986 .

history

At the end of the 1950s, Wietze Wenselaar founded the company together with his wife Maria Köllner. They achieved their first successes with the production and marketing of the first metal-coated ironing board cover in Germany. The traditional trade and mail order business initially served as the distribution channel.

When Hanns-Joachim Köllner, the son of the company's founder, joined the company in 1968, the product range was expanded. In addition to complementary ironing items, the range was expanded to include general household goods. Today Wenko offers household helpers, bathroom accessories and storage systems.

In August 2002, Niklas Köllner and Philip Köllner (August 2004) joined the company. Since April 2013 these have been part of the management.

The company name "Wenko" is derived from the family names of the two company founders: Wen selaar and Ko ellner. The company logo has changed several times over the years. While a windmill represented the brand in the early years, today's brand brand, which is embedded on a blue and white background, is supplemented by the slogan "The better idea".

Business areas

The Wenko product range comprises around 6,000 items (as of October 2016) based on over 1,000 patents and property rights, which are marketed internationally through several sales channels.

In order to take account of the company's increasing export business, Wenko-Prodlog, a logistics center in Hückelhoven in North Rhine-Westphalia , was added in 1997 . From here, the goods are shipped to more than 81 countries. In order to meet the increasing customer requirements, WENKO invested in a new logistics hall (35,000 m²) with an automated conveyor belt system, which tripled the capacity. This means that 50,000 gripping units (picking quantity) can be handled daily.

In addition, Wenko has subsidiaries in France, Spain, Italy, the USA and China.

Awards

In 2015, the Düsseldorf Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognized the company as the best training and further education company in the region for its commitment to recruiting young skilled workers .

Wenko has received the Plus X Award several times for its products .

In 2016, the company received the German Brand Award in the “Industry Excellence in Branding - Consumer Goods” category for an optimized POS module concept with which the complete range of the Fastening without drilling product range can be presented in the retail trade in a minimum of space.

For the second time in a row, Wenko was awarded the “Innovative through Research” seal of approval by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft in 2016 . The seal honors companies that are particularly committed to research and development.

In 2016, the company was accepted as a foundation member in the German Design Council .
