The successes in which the league has played a part include the establishment of rooming-in after the birth, the introduction of childcare allowance (today: parental allowance ) and parental leave, the consideration of childcare periods in terms of pension law, numerous reforms of child law and the child and youth welfare law and the gradual implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in Germany.

It distributes leaflets to maternity wards and publishes films and brochures for parents and professionals. Every year it organizes an annual public scientific conference.

With “Kindergarten plus”, the league has developed a program to promote the social and emotional skills of four to five-year-old children in day-care centers, which is carried out in more than 1,620 day-care centers across Germany. "Kindergarten plus" is part of the youth program of the German Lions and is sponsored by numerous Lions clubs .
