The Federal Working Group of Volunteer Agencies eV (bagfa) is the nationwide umbrella and professional association of volunteer agencies in Germany. The bagfa strives for a civil society in which people with joy and competence get involved in society free of charge, help shape it responsibly and in which there are equal opportunities and opportunities for everyone to develop. Bagfa is made up of local volunteer agencies and individuals as sustaining members.

As an umbrella and professional association, bagfa promotes and strengthens the work of the volunteer agencies on site. It makes the services of the volunteer agencies visible and improves the general conditions of their work. It advises volunteer agencies on technical issues, develops information and work materials, organizes advanced training and supports quality development with a quality management system.

Bagfa promotes exchange, cooperation and project transfer between the volunteer agencies and develops fields of engagement and projects.

As a representative of the interests of the volunteer agencies, bagfa also addresses citizens, organizations and associations, companies and politics, administration and the media who are interested in the work of the volunteer agencies.

Foundation and organization

Bagfa was founded on January 27, 1999 by 18 volunteer agencies as an association in Nuremberg . 202 volunteer agencies , volunteer centers, engagement exchanges , volunteer offices, volunteers and individuals are currently members of bagfa.

The bagfa is organized as a registered association, which is led by a five-member board. The office in Berlin has nine employees. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is the patron of bagfa.

Memberships

Bagfa is a member of the Federal Network for Citizenship Engagement (BBE) and is represented there on the coordination committee. In 2015 bagfa joined the Global Network of National Volunteer Centers (GNNVC) . The international network of volunteer centers is an initiative of the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) .
