The Federal Network for Citizenship Engagement ( BBE ) is a "tri-sectoral network" of organizations from the areas of civil society ( third sector ), the state (federal ministries, federal states and municipalities ) and business as well as some individuals.

The aim of the BBE is the sustainable promotion of an active civil society and the strengthening of civic engagement in all areas of society and politics. The network sees the promotion of volunteering as a socio-political task that is not limited to individual areas of engagement, but encompasses all areas of society and politics. Individual responsibility and participation of the citizens should be emphasized and strengthened; Voluntary work, self-help and voluntary work should be given a higher priority in the state and society.
