Career as a player
Dárdai began his career at MFC Pécs and moved to BVSC Budapest in January 1996 . Before the promotion to the Bundesliga , Hertha BSC signed the then 20-year-old in January 1997. During his time in Berlin , he also became a Hungarian national player . In 1999 Dárdai was named Hungary's Footballer of the Year .

In June 2010 Hertha BSC extended the contract with Dárdai for one year. However, he spent the second half of the season in the reserve team. Career as a coach
Dárdai began his coaching career at Seeburger SV when he lived in Seeburg . There he trained a. a. the F youth . From February 2012 to the end of June 2013 he was Andreas Thom's assistant trainer at Hertha BSC's B-Jugend (U17) . For the 2013/14 season he took over the C-youth (U15) as head coach. On September 18, 2014, he became the coach of the Hungarian national team . He should coach the team in the remaining games in 2014. From December 2014 he planned to expand his work as national coach - in addition to his work as head coach of the Hertha BSC U15 - until November 2015.
On February 5, 2015 Dárdai took over the Hertha BSC professional team from 17th place in the table from the dismissed Jos Luhukay . The season ended in 15th place with relegation. Before the 2015/16 season , Dárdai gave up his job as Hungarian national coach. After a strong first half of the season, which ended with 32 points in 3rd place in the table, they finished seventh with 50 points at the end of the season, which meant they qualified for the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League . At the beginning of the 2016/17 season they were eliminated in that qualification against the Danish representative Brøndby IF . Also this season, Hertha could not confirm a good first half of the season. After fifth place with 30 points after 17 match days, the team finished the season with 49 points in 6th place, which qualified them for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. The season 2017/18 ended Hertha BSC in the midfield with 43 points in 10th position. In the Europa League they eliminated behind Athletic Bilbao , Östersunds FK and Sorja Luhansk in the group stage. Hertha BSC finished the first half of the 2018/19 season in 8th place with 24 points. Also this year, the second half of the season was significantly worse than the first half of the season. After five defeats in a row, Dárdai and the club agreed in mid-April 2019 that he would give up the post of head coach after four and a half years at the end of the season. At that time, only the coach of SC Freiburg , Christian Streich (since the beginning of 2012), was longer in office as a trainer for a current Bundesliga club. The general contractual relationship would remain in place, so that he could work as a junior coach again from the 2020/21 season. Hertha BSC ended the season in 11th place with 43 points.
At the beginning of May 2020, the club confirmed that it would use Dárdai as a coach for the U16s from July 1, 2020 following his sabbatical .
