Pál Dárdai (football player, 1951)

Pál Dárdai (born May 9, 1951 in Véménd ; † December 8, 2017 ) was a Hungarian football player and coach.

Career

Dárdai made his debut in 1972 for Komlói Bányász in the Nemzeti Bajnokság , but rose with the club in 1973 from the top division. In 1974 he moved back to the first division and joined Pécsi Mecsek FC . Here, too, he rose to the second division at the end of his first season, and in 1977 he was promoted again. In the following year he reached the final of the Hungarian National Cup with the team . There he and István Varga shot the club to 2-0 half-time lead, but Ferencváros Budapest turned the game around in extra time and ultimately won 4-2. By 1985 he played in almost 300 league games for the club.

In early 1986 Dárdai moved to FK Vojvodina in the Yugoslav Prva Liga . In the summer he rose with the team in the second division. In the 1988/89 season he returned to Pécsi Mecsek FC for a game.

After the end of his active career, Dárdai worked as a coach for various Hungarian clubs, including looking after his former clubs Komlói Bányász and Pécsi Mecsek FC in the 1990s. In the 2000s he trained several seasons at Barcsi SC in Nemzeti Bajnokság II .

Dárdai was the father of the soccer players Balázs and Pál Dárdai , his grandson Palkó Dárdai also plays soccer. He looked after his sons as a trainer.
