Lee Merrien (born April 26, 1979 ) is a British middle and long distance runner .

Life

For his home island Guernsey he started at two Commonwealth Games: 2002 in Manchester and 2006 in Melbourne he was eliminated over 1500 m in the preliminary run. At the Island Games he has won six gold medals so far: from 2003 to 2009 four times in a row over 1500 m and in 2007 and 2009 over 5000 m .

At the European Cross Country Championships in 2008 he came in 22nd and won bronze with the British team.

In 2009 he finished twelfth at the Great North Run . The following year he was on his debut over the 42.195 km distance twelfth in the London Marathon and then eighth in the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona . In 2011 he came in 14th place in London and 22nd at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu . In 2012, he qualified with 17th place in London for the marathon of the Olympic Games in London , in which he finished 30th.

Lee Merrien is trained by John Nuttall and starts for the Newham & Essex Beagles. He has been in the fitness industry since graduating from the University of Bath in 2004.
