The Scottish League Cup was played for the 29th time in 1974/75 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 10, 1974 and ended with the final on October 26, 1974 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . FC Dundee started as the defending champion who had prevailed against Celtic Glasgow in the previous year's final . In this year's final, Celtic Glasgow and Hibernian Edinburgh met . For Celtic it was the twelfth consecutive final in the League Cup since 1965 , and the 14th overall since 1957 . The Hibs reached the final for the fourth time after 1951 , 1969 and 1973 . Celtic won the final 6-3. It was the Bhoys' first victory in the League Cup since 1969 and the eighth overall since 1957. The opponents were the Hibs . The team from Edinburgh lost the final for the third time. John Deans (Celtic) and Joe Harper (Hibernian) each scored a hat trick . In the 1974/75 season, Celtic also won the Scottish Cup . The championship was won by the Glasgow Rangers ahead of the Hibs and the Bhoys . Celtic took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup as a cup winner in the following season and was eliminated in the quarter-finals against BSG Sachsenring Zwickau . Loser Hibernian was runner-up in the UEFA Cup .
