Career

society

Ally Hunter, who was born in Glasgow , started his career about 20 km away in Johnstone in the youth of FC Johnstone Burgh . From 1970 he was under contract for three seasons with the Scottish first division club FC Kilmarnock . In his first season he was able to secure the regular place between the posts. For the Killies , Hunter completed a total of 76 games in Division One . After Hunter played with the Killies in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup against Celtic in April 1972 , he was able to convince the opponent's club representatives with a strong performance, so that he moved to Celtic Glasgow in January 1973 for a transfer fee of £ 60,000 . For the goalkeeper who was already a fan of Celtic as a child , a childhood dream came true with the signature . He was signed because team manager Jock Stein was dissatisfied with previous goalkeepers Evan Williams and Denis Connaghan . Hunter made his debut in a 1-2 loss on January 27, 1973 to Airdrieonians FC . In the spring of 1973 he was instrumental in the success of Celtic in the Scottish Championship when he remained clean in seven games in a row. He lost the Scottish Cup final with Celtic at the Old Firm against the Rangers . In the 1973/74 season, Hunter alternated with Connaghan as a regular goalkeeper. Hunter played in the league cup final of 1974 and 1975 and Connaghan in the cup final in 1974 . After a 3-0 defeat at the Old Firm at the Rangers on January 4, 1975, Stein lost confidence in Hunter and signed a new goalkeeper with the Englishman Peter Latchford of West Bromwich Albion . Hunter played his last game for Celtic a year later on January 31, 1976 against Dundee United . In April 1976 Hunter moved to Motherwell FC for £ 60,000 . For the club he was used eight times in the 1976/77 season . A season later he was seven times at FC St. Mirren between the posts before ending his career early in 1978.

National team

In May 1973 he completed another international match during the British Home Championship 1972/73 against England at Wembley Stadium . His last assignment for Scotland completed Hunter in September 1973 in the qualifier for the upcoming World Cup against Czechoslovakia .
