The Scottish Football League First Division was held for the 18th time in 1992/93 as only the second highest Scottish league . It was also the eighteenth edition of the men's second division football in Scotland under the name First Division . In the 1992/93 season, 12 clubs competed against each other in a total of 44 matchdays. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The championship was won by FC Dundee , which at the same time secured participation in the 1993/94 Premier Division season . In addition to the rovers , the runner-up FC Kilmarnock also rose. Meadowbank Thistle and FC Cowdenbeath had to relegate to the Second Division . The top scorer with 33 goals was Gordon Dalziel of the Raith Rovers.
