Alexander Italianer

Alexander Italianer (* 1956 ) is a Dutch EU civil servant. From September 2015 to February 2018 he was Secretary General of the European Commission .

Life

Alexander Italianer studied economics and received his doctorate from the University of Groningen with a thesis on Theory and practice of international trade linkage models . After a research stay at the Catholic University of Leuven , he joined the European Commission in 1985. There he worked in the Santer , Verheugen , Telička and Barroso cabinets .

He became Deputy Secretary General of the Better Regulation Agenda in 2006. In February 2010 he took over the management of the General Directorate for Competition.
