Cumbernauld is a planned town in North Lanarkshire , Scotland , founded in 1956 when Glasgow was suffering from overpopulation. Its population in 2011 was 52,270. This makes it the eighth largest city in Scotland.
Surname
The name Cumbernauld comes from the Gaelic “comar nan allt”, which means “between the waters”. In fact, the place is between the Clyde and Forth rivers .

Cumbernauld Glen is considered a wildlife reserve and is managed and maintained by the Scottish Wildlife Trust.
