description

The Sacred Heart Church was completed in 1964. The designs come from the renowned architecture firm Gillespie, Kidd & Coia , who also planned other buildings in the Archdiocese of Glasgow , including the Brutalist seminary at St Peter's College in Cardross . The building is built into a slight slope and consists of brick that is plastered and painted with red-brown paint. Originally, the Sacred Heart Church was painted a cream tone. The entrance is in a protruding part of the building on the north side. Modern stained glass windows depicting the crucifixion story are let in on both sides. They were designed by the artist Sadie McLellan . The individual window elements differ in height and are separated from each other by pillars of varying width. The building closes with a flat roof . The two southern edges of the building are rounded.
