Andy Watson

Andy Watson (* 1960 or 1961) is an American modern jazz musician ( drums , also composition ).

Live and act

Watson received drums at the age of four, lessons from the following year and played in a children's band at the age of seven. His role models include drummers such as Mel Lewis , Elvin Jones , Philly Joe Jones , Art Blakey and Tony Williams .

Watson worked in the New York jazz scene from the early 1990s a. a. with Senri Oe and Company, Chris Bacas, Jon Hendricks , Jerry Weldon , John Hart , Toshiko Akiyoshi , Benny Golson , Woody Herman , Joe Lovano , Wynton Marsalis , Marian McPartland , James Moody , Marvin Stamm , Lew Tabackin and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra . As a member of the Jim Hall Trio, he worked on Hall's award-winning album Dialogues (1995) and his encounters a. a. with Bill Frisell , Mike Stern or Tom Harrell .

His play on David Bixler's album Call It a Good Deal was featured by All About Jazz in 2006. Watson toured the United States, Europe, Asia and South America and performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival , JVC Jazz Festival New York , the Jazz Festival Zurich and the Jazz Fest Vienna .

In the field of jazz he was involved in 42 recording sessions between 1991 and 2014, including a. also with Joshua Breakstone ( The Music of Bud Powell ), Sasha Dobson , Larry Goldings , Virginia Mayhew and Scott Reeves . He is currently a member of the Chris Byars Sextet (with Zaid Nasser , John Mosca , Stefano Doglioni , Ari Roland ).
