Ari Roland

Ari Roland (* around 1970 in New York City ) is an American modern jazz musician ( double bass ) .

Live and act

Roland grew up in New York and started playing bass when he was twelve, and when he was 16 he made his first professional appearances as a musician. He then studied at the Juilliard School and from the early 1990s worked with veterans such as Doc Cheatham (with whom the first recordings were made), Lou Donaldson , Barry Harris and Betty Carter , and continued with Lynne Arriale , Frank Hewitt , Zaid Nasser , Nellie McKay , Chris Byars and Sacha Perry . With the latter two (as well as with Phil Stewart ) Roland recorded his debut album Sketches from a Bassist's Album (Smalls Records) in 2005 . In the 2010s he also worked with Yaala Ballin , Renaud Penant , Pasquale and Luigi Grasso ; In 2018 he was a member of the Harold Mabern Trio. In the field of jazz he was involved in 38 recording sessions between 1992 and 2017.
