David Narey (born June 12, 1956 in Dundee , Scotland ) is a former Scottish football player . He could play both in defense and in midfield.

Career

Narey played for 21 years (1973-1994) for the Scottish first division club Dundee United and in the 1994/95 season for another year for the Raith Rovers . 1983 Narey was Scottish champion with Dundee, 1980 and 1981 he won the League Cup. In 1987 the team reached the final of the UEFA Cup but lost there against IFK Gothenburg . In total, Narey played 865 competitive games for Dundee, including 612 in the highest Scottish league and 76 games in the European Cup.

Narey completed 35 games for the Scottish national football team and took part in the 1982 and 1986 World Cups. In total, he came to five appearances in soccer world championships, his only international goal he succeeded in the 1982 World Cup against Brazil.

In 1992 Narey was awarded the Order of MBE for his services to sport .
