James "Jim" Fergus Cruickshank (born April 13, 1941 in Glasgow , † November 18, 2010 in Edinburgh ) was a Scottish football goalkeeper . During his career he played with Heart of Midlothian for seventeen years .

Career

Jim Cruickshank, who was born in Glasgow , began his career with the Drumchapel Amateurs in the eponymous district of the Scottish metropolis. In the 1959/60 season Cruickshank was with the Scottish second division FC Queen's Park under contract for which he completed 30 league games. After a year in the service of the Spiders , the goalkeeper moved to Heart of Midlothian in Edinburgh . In October 1960, the 19-year-old made his debut for the club. Until 1964 he was second goalkeeper behind Gordon Marshall . From 1964 to 1970 he was a regular goalkeeper. By 1977 he played in 528 competitive games of which 394 league games. With the Hearts he reached the Scottish Cup final in 1968 and 1976 . In the finals he was defeated with the Hearts against Dunfermline Athletic and the Glasgow Rangers . In the League Cup he lost with his team to the Rangers in 1962 , a year later the title was won in the final against FC Kilmarnock . After the Hearts were relegated to the second division in Scotland at the end of the 1976/77 season , Cruickshank moved to Dumbarton FC for one season . In the summer of 1978, Cruickshank ended his career at the age of 37.

National team

As a regular goalkeeper of Heart of Midlothian, Jim Cruickshank made his debut on May 12, 1964 in the Scottish national team in the international match against West Germany in the Lower Saxony Stadium in Hanover, which ended 2-2. Cruickshank made his second appearance in the national jersey six years later at the British Home Championship 1969/70 against Wales . After another game against England , he won the 75th edition of the competition with the Bravehearts . In the same year he was used again in the international match against Denmark during qualification for the European Championship in 1972 , and in 1971 against Belgium . His last assignment for Scotland completed Cruickshank in December 1975 in the qualifier for the upcoming European Championship against Romania .
