Adam Rooney (born April 21, 1988 in Dublin ) is an Irish football player who is under contract with Salford City .

Career

Adam Rooney started his career in Ireland with Crumlin United . In the summer of 2005, the striker moved to the Youth Academy of the English club Stoke City . For this Rooney made his debut in the 2005/06 season in the third round of the English Cup against Tamworth FC . For the then second division team, he scored his first professional goal in the league against Reading FC in April 2006 . On the final day of the season, Rooney became the youngest player in the history of the Stoke club to score a hat trick against Brighton & Hove Albion . Under Dutch team manager Johan Boskamp , he had scored four goals in five championship games at the end of the season. In the following season 2006/07 he should be active under the new manager Tony Pulis until February 2007 , before the 19-year-old was loaned to the third division club Yeovil Town . By 2008, two more loans to Chesterfield FC and Bury FC followed, for which he was mostly used as a substitute. For a fee of £ 50,000, Rooney moved to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Highlands in August 2008 . With his new club, he rose at the end of the season from the Scottish Premier League to the second-rate First Division . In the First Division 2009/10 he was promoted directly again, with 24 goals the Irishman was also top scorer. In the same year he reached the final of the Challenge Cup with the team, which was lost to FC Dundee despite the 2-0 lead . After the contract expired, Rooney moved to England for a second time, this time to the second division side Birmingham City . Because the Blues won the English League Cup last season, Ronney played in the European Cup in his first year of membership . In addition to 18 league games in which he had scored four goals, he met once in five games in the Europa League. In the 2012/13 season played the entire time on loan at Swindon Town . After termination of employment in Birmingham , the attacker played for six months at Oldham Athletic before signing a two-year contract with Scottish first division club Aberdeen in January 2014 . With the Dons he won the Scottish League Cup 2013/14 in the final against his old club from Inverness . In the decisive penalty shootout, he netted the 4-2 winning goal. In December 2014, Rooney extended his contract early until 2018. He then moved to Salford City in the English National League .
