Life

Michael Anton works as an author, publicist and communications consultant. During the presidency of George W. Bush he was employed on the advisory staff for national security and in 2003 agitated for the Iraq war . In 2008 he acted as a foreign policy advisor on Rudy Giuliani's candidacy for the presidential primaries . Anton then wrote speeches for Rupert Murdoch , worked as PR director at Citybank and was a manager at the investment company BlackRock . In 2006, under a pseudonym, he wrote a guidebook for men's fashion in the style of a parody of Il principe .

During Donald Trump's 2015/16 election campaign , Anton wrote campaign articles under the pseudonym " Publius Decius Mus " on the later closed website Journal of American Greatness . In September 2016 he published the article The Flight 93 Election there , the title alludes to the United Airlines Flight 93 in 2001, in which the passengers actively turned against terrorism. In the article he raised allegations against the political establishment among the Republicans and defined a Trumpism under the terms "immigration, trade and war" ( The truth is that Trump articulated, if incompletely and inconsistently, the right stances on the right issues - immigration, trade, and war - right from the beginning. ) The Rush Limbaugh radio show devoted several programs to his theses and contributed to its nationwide dissemination. Anton's anonymous article met with strong resonance among the attacked conservative opponents of Trump, for example, New York Times columnist Ross Douthat, Jonah Goldberg of the National Review and Michael Gerson of the Washington Post discussed the anonymous writer in detail. For its part, “Publius Decius Mus” offered The New Yorker an interview for the period after the election, provided that his pseudonym was retained.

After Trump was elected, the article by Trump opponent David Brooks was named for one of his annual Sidney Awards for influential political journalism in December 2016 .

Anton's pseudonym was revealed in February 2017 during Donald Trump's presidency when Anton appeared as a senior official among the staff of the National Security Advisor to the President.

Until April 8, 2018, Anton was officially "Director of Strategic Communications" in the United States National Security Council .
