Jonah Goldberg
Jonah Jacob Goldberg (born March 21, 1969 ) is a conservative American publicist and commentator. He was best known for his contributions to politics and culture on the Republican- related website National Review Online , of which he is editor-in-chief. He also appears regularly on television, for example in shows such as Good Morning America , Crossfire , Nightline , Hardball with Chris Matthews , Larry King Live and the now canceled Politically Incorrect .
Career
Goldberg completed studies at Goucher College in Baltimore until 1991 , on whose advisory board he sat from 1991 to 1994. He wrote and produced two documentary series: Gargoyles: Guardians of the Gate and Notre Dame: Witness to History . In the 1990s he also worked as an English teacher in the Czech capital, Prague, for a year .
Publications
Topics that are recurrent in his articles include censorship , meritocracy , civil liberties, federalism and the interpretation of the US Constitution . His quarrels with those who think differently are also often the subject of his columns . He regularly serves a second on the syndication train , including on Townhall.com , the website of an important conservative network in the USA. There he usually takes a more moderate tone than in his articles for the National Review Online (which also appears in print as the "National Review"), for which he has been writing regularly since September 11, 1998.
In addition, his comments have appeared in the " Wall Street Journal ", " Commentary ", "The Public Interest", "The Wilson Quarterly", " Weekly Standard ", in the tabloid " New York Post " as well as in "The Women's Quarterly" and as guest commentary on the "progressive" online magazine Slate and (occasionally) in the " New Yorker ", which is generally regarded as "left-wing ". His syndicated articles appear almost regularly in the " Los Angeles Times " ( as of July 2006).
The Author Goldberg: Admirer and Critic
His column in the National Review Online, called "Goldberg File" (or "G-File" by Goldberg admirers, who in turn is dubbed "G-Philes" - G-Philos , so Goldberg friends -) sets regularly on a humor that often comes at the expense of the liberals (in the USA: the left). In doing so, Goldberg does not mince his words and often makes use of a striking, sometimes quite rude polemic . In the course of the campaign of numerous conservative gazettes and other "patriotic" media against the war "unwilling" French (the so-called French bashing ) z. B. he did not stop behind the mountain and reviled them as " cheese-eating surrender monkeys " (for example: cheese-chewing surrender monkeys ), a quote from the television series "The Simpsons". He continues to be a declared enemy of Alec Baldwin , Noam Chomsky or the UN . He fell out with columnist Ann Coulter , who had also written for the national review, after an article in which she spoke out in favor of invading Islamic countries and Christianizing them . It was not the content that bothered him, but the journalistic weakness.
Goldberg is the author of the book “Liberal Fascism. The Secret History of the American Left, from Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning ”(2008, ISBN 0-385-51184-1 , German: Liberal Fascism. The Secret History of the American Left) . In 2018 his book “Suicide of the West. "How the Rebirth of Tribalism, Populism, Nationalism, and Identity Politics Is Destroying American Democracy".

Goldberg is married to Jessica Gavora and has a daughter with her. Gavora was the speechwriter for former US Attorney General John Ashcroft . Goldberg's late father Sid (* 1931; † 2005) was Jewish, his mother Lucianne Steinberger Cummings Goldberg is an Episcopalian Protestant. Goldberg has a brother, Joshua John Goldberg.
