La Bum is the fifth studio album of the band Sportfreunde Stiller , which on 3 August 2007 on CD, LP and a limited edition version with CD including bonus DVD Li Ve in Li Do was released. On February 15, 2008 the album was re- released under the name La Bum (re-release) . This new version of the album contains five new songs, including the song Antinazibund , which is directed against right-wing violence and with which the Sportfreunde Stiller performed at the Bundesvision Song Contest 2008 and took 10th place. This song was released as a single with no connection to the album.

According to the band, the album name comes from bassist Rüdiger Linhof. He said "it must be something that expresses that you put the record in and then immediately" boom "it." From this boom , the sports friends Stiller came to "Labum - the party!" (An allusion to the Film La Boum - The Fete ) and ultimately Labum was chosen. In addition, La Bum is an anagram to the word album .

La Bum entered the German album charts at number 1 in Germany. The album was only able to hold this place for one week, but stayed in the top 10 for two more weeks. In total, the album was in the charts for 12 weeks. The album was also successful in Austria. There the record entered the album charts at number 5 and stayed in the charts for a total of 7 weeks. The album had significantly less success in Switzerland. There it rose in 25th place and lasted 4 weeks.

Emergence

At the end of September 2006 the band began working on La Bum . The album was recorded in two different studios. The first recordings were made in the Casa Pepe studio in Spain for two weeks, followed by two weeks in Hamburg and another two weeks in Spain. At the end of these studio stays there were 19 recorded songs, of which the band unanimously selected 11 songs to be on the album. A total of 33 songs were created in preparation for La Bum .

subjects

La Bum moves thematically away from the previous album You Have to Win Zweikampf . There is no title on the album with the theme of football, which was predominant in You Have to Win duel . According to Peter S. Brugger, the album is more mature and melancholy than its predecessor.

Topics include: wanderlust (995 deep over Iceland), longing (in the immediate distance) and doubt ((only do that) what your heart tells you).

Song information

Singles

All fine! (July 20, 2007)

On July 20, 2007, two weeks before the album was released, the first single from the album, La Bum, was released . According to Peter Brugger, the theme of the song is communication, language, dealing with other people and the many misunderstandings that can arise

(Do Just That) What Your Heart Tells You (Nov 2nd 2007)

To all, Roger! followed on November 2, 2007 (just do that) What your heart tells you as a second single. When Florian Weber was asked about the album's personal favorite, he mentioned (just do that) what your heart tells you as a "song that is pervaded by doubts" , whereby "the doubts remain at the end of the song" . He would find this very interesting because they (Sportfreunde Stiller) would otherwise be more positive.

Other songs

995 deep over Iceland

The song was written by Peter Brugger. While writing the song, he was influenced by his "surfing experience in the south of France". In general, the song is about wanderlust .

Artwork

The artwork for the album comes from Kai Büschl. Among other things, he was responsible for the artwork for the Sportfreunde Stiller albums Live , You have to win Zweikampf and Burli .

Reviews

La Bum was received rather moderately by national music critics. Plattentests.de rated the album with 5 out of 10 points, Visions with 8 or 4 points from two different editors and at laut.de it scored three out of five points in the editorial team. Laut.de wrote:

“The Munich-based company has delivered an exciting and often simply wonderful album. [...] The wild, unbridled frolicking times seem over, but without losing the bite. "

- Artur Schulz, laut.de

“In short, the athletes have not reinvented themselves, but have continued to develop. In this way they position themselves in a pleasantly playful and relaxed way between the pop-cultural credibility of the doctors and a lovingly balanced Tomte thoughtfulness. Because they have remained loyal to the indie without denying the pop status they have now achieved . That alone is performance enough. "

- Sascha Krüger, Visions
