United Balls is a German-speaking band from Munich , which was founded in 1973 and became known as part of the Neue Deutsche Welle .
history
The combo's origins were in a school band at the Gisela-Gymnasium in Munich in the mid-1970s . The band was initially called “Teen Quo Vadis”, then “U-Bahnschacht”, inspired by the current building craze. Soon the abbreviation “UBS” was preferred, after which the desire arose for an English name, which should be derived from this abbreviation if possible. The answer was "United Balls".
After the first successful live performances in the legendary Schwabing Rigan Club, the band was signed in 1980 by the former musician Jörg Evers , who produced the song Pogo in Togo . It reached number 24 in the German charts. Later, smaller hits in Germany, Austria and Switzerland followed. In 1993 singer and composer Harry Kulzer left the band; the remaining members tried their hand at English-language guitar pop. In 2005 the band returned to the stage with an appearance in the Atomic Café in Munich . On May 7, 2011, after 29 years, they released a CD with the original line-up.
Singer and guitarist Horst Lindhofer studied biology and, after completing his doctorate, founded Trion Pharma , which together with Fresenius Biotech was the first German biotech company to bring a recombinant antibody to approval and market readiness.
In the 2007 film Mia san dageng , United Balls refer to themselves as a punk band.
The Sportfreunde Stiller and several punk bands coverten the success song Pogo in Togo . The last time JBO covered the song in 2009 and rewrote it to Dio in Rio .
