Harmful was a German noise rock band from Frankfurt am Main, active from 1992 to 2014 .

history

After the formation, the band initially recorded demos and played concerts on a local level. In 1995 Harmful signed with the independent label BluNoise , in the same year the self-titled debut with Guido Lucas was produced in the attached studio . A first tour of Germany followed.

In 1997 he went on tour to France. In the same year the second album Apoplexy.136 , again produced by Lucas, was released. In the following years, the band became well known in the opening act for Clutch , Helmet (band) , Machine Head , Paradise Lost , Prong , Slayer and Unsane, as well as on several headlining tours.

In 1999 the band switched to the major label EMI , where the third album, recorded by Dave Sardy , was to be released under the title Counterbalance . However, since the recorded pieces EMI were too bulky, the label separated from the band. Harmful then came under with BMG Ariola , who also released their fourth album Wromantic in 2001 . Then they separated from this label, brought out the following album Sanguine on SPV and then signed again with Noisolution , who released Sis Masis in 2005 .

In February 2007, the seventh Harmful album 7 was released , which was produced by former Faith No More bassist Billy Gould . At his own request, Gould subsequently joined Harmful as a permanent member and was also involved in the band's subsequent tour. Because of this connection, Harmful was booked as a support band for a Faith No More reunion show in 2009.

In 2010 the next Harmful album Cause followed via PIAS , which was recorded again without Gould's participation. For this, the band was able to win Dave Sardy again for the mix of the album. In 2013, PIAS released the album Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired, produced by Moses Schneider . Then was Florian Weber ( Sportfreunde Stiller ) to hear the drums after Nico Heimann Harmful had left for personal reasons. Before it was released, the album could be listened to in full on the Visions magazine website .

In March 2014 Harmful went on a farewell tour across Germany with the original line-up. The last appearance on March 16 in the Frankfurt Zoom was recorded and was included as a live album Vault in the subscription edition of the music magazine Visions, which was published in April 2014.

Side projects

Aren Emirze and Chris Aidonopoulos were active in parallel in the band Rinderwahnsinn until 2001 .

In addition, Emirze released the solo album A Gentle Kind of Disaster in 2006 under the name Emirsian , on which he claims to combine his experiences with his main band and influences from the Beatles , Elliott Smith and Elvis Costello as well as from his Armenian homeland. In 2008 the second album Yelq followed , in 2011 the double album Accidentally in Between .

In 2008, Emirze also played in the band project Angst vor Clowns , in which Gerd Knebel was active as a singer.
