Unsane is an American noise rock band from New York that was formed in 1988, split in 2000 and reunited in 2003.

history

The band was formed in 1988 by singer and guitarist Chris Spencer, bassist Peter Shore and drummer Charles Ondras at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. The first smaller, local appearances followed until Treehouse Records became aware of the band, and the debut single This Town / Urge to Kill . The band also recorded songs for a debut album. However, since this could not be released, the band separated from Treehouse Records and released their self-titled debut album on Matador Records in 1991. The following year, Charlie Ondras died of an overdose and was replaced by drummer Vinny Signorelli. Two years later bassist Shore left the band and was replaced by Dave Curran.

In 1993 the next album, Total Destruction, followed on Atlantic Records . The third album Scattered, Smothered and Covered followed in 1995 . A music video was created for the song Scrape , which was also played on MTV . In 1999 the band was included on the soundtrack for the computer game Tony Hawk's Skateboarding . In 1998 the album Occupational Hazard was released . During a tour in Europe shortly before the album was released, Spencer was brutally beaten by four people in Vienna , so that he was hospitalized with severe internal bleeding and had to undergo an extensive operation. In 2000 the band broke up for the time being.

In 2003 the band got together again and released the best-of compilation Lambhouse: The Collection 1991-1998 via Relapse Records , which also included a DVD with all of the music videos made so far. After the next album Blood Run was released in 2005 , Visqueen followed in 2007 via Ipecac Records . This was followed by a European tour that included over 20 performances, ten of which were in Germany alone . In 2012 the album Wreck was released on Alternative Tentacles .

style

The band is one of the most important representatives of noise rock, which is characterized above all by its aggressive sound.
