The birds are a German electro duo, consisting of Jakobus Durstewitz and Mense Reents .
history
The birds were founded in 2007 by the musicians Jakobus Durstewitz (formerly Jakobus Siebels) and Mense Reents as a project during Jakobus Durstewitz's stay in Kassel as part of the off- Documenta . When Mense Reents visited there, the two musicians spontaneously organized a concert for which they had composed the music just two days earlier. This first Die-Vögel appearance took place in the Kassel gallery Loyal .
With the song Blue Mosque , the duo achieved a great club hit at the end of 2009, which was played by DJ Sven Väth during his performances.
Video artists and filmmakers Timo Schierhorn and Katharina Duve produced the music video for their 2011 single Fratzengulasch .
In 2012, a sample from her song Blue Mosque was used in the official single for the 2012 European Football Championship . The hook of the EM song Endless Summer by the singer Oceana is a fanfare . The original is from Die Vögel.
Since 2009 the duo has been releasing their Maxisingles on the music label Pampa Records by DJ Koze and Marcus Fink and performing repeatedly in Germany and internationally. In addition to club appearances, Die Vögel played at various music festivals such as the Appletree Garden Festival , Fusion Festival or the MS Dockville .
Music genre
The musical style of Die Vögel is described as “Deep Tech” and “Psych House” or as Dadaist brass house , for which the duo uses recorders , tubas , clarinets and drums as well as analog drum computers and synthesizers . There are also dadaist - intellectual texts.
