Jakobus Durstewitz (born August 27, 1969 in Emden ; born Edvard Jakobus Siebels) is a German musician , singer and painter .

Live and act

Jakobus Durstewitz grew up with his three siblings first in Emden and then in the East Frisian town of Willmsfeld near Wittmund . In the early 1990s he and his younger brother Jimi Siebels , with whom he founded the band Das Neue Brot , moved to Hamburg , where he lived and worked for a long time. Like his brother Jimi, Durstewitz moves musically around the so-called Hamburg School and is always a guest musician on albums by other Hamburg musicians and bands.

After The New Bread disbanded, Durstewitz and his then girlfriend and now wife founded ebba durstewitz by music critics acclaimed pop - band JaKönigJa that exists to this day. He is also involved in other band projects such as the alternative country band The Watzloves or Die Vögel , which he founded with Mense Reents . The latter music project was founded during a stay by Durstewitz in Kassel as part of the Documenta . When project co-founder Mense Reents visited him there, the two musicians spontaneously organized a concert and composed the music for the performance two days before this live debut. This first Die Vögel appearance took place in the Loyal Gallery in Kassel. With the song Blue Mosque they achieved a small club hit at the end of 2009, which was played by Sven Väth among others during his performances.

His second field of activity besides music is painting, which Durstewitz began with in Emden and which, like music, he has largely self-taught . Since 1994 he has presented his works initially in the Cheap Art Gallery ArtStore St.Pauli . In 2007 Jakobus Durstewitz was represented with his work at the festival Bürgerstolz und Stadtfrieden, which took place parallel to the Documenta exhibition in Kassel, with an installation and various performances.

Since 2008, pictures of him have shaped the artwork of the Dockville music and art festival, which takes place every year in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg , in all forms of publication . Durstewitz also produced music for theater plays during these two years and played one of the leading roles in Henna Peschel's feature film Madboy . In 2013 Jakobus Durstewitz designed the stage design for Christine Eder's production of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's Die Ehe des Herr Mississippi at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg .

In 2015 Durstewitz lived in the Lüneburg Heath and stated in an interview that he had meanwhile almost given up painting in favor of fishing .
