MS Dockville is a music and art festival in the Hamburg district of Wilhelmsburg on Reiherstieg . It first took place in 2007. Large parts of the festival area are located behind the Reiherstieg main dike, i.e. in an area that is not protected from flooding.
The special thing about MS Dockville is the combination of music and visual arts . The art magazine art wrote about the festival: “Unlike at large music festivals or art fairs, where the aim is to consume as much as possible in a short period of time, the collective experience, in which the visitors contribute themselves, comes first here Job."
2007
In 2007 the MS Dockville took place for the first time as a two-day music and art festival with around 5,000 visitors. The musical headliners were the German pop duo 2raumwohnung and the band Tocotronic . Daniel Richter was the artistic director .
2008
In 2008 the festival was extended to three days: it took place from Friday, August 15, 2008, to Sunday, August 17, 2008. Headliners included the band Tomte , the hip-hop formations Deichkind and Fettes Brot , The Ting Tings and Television Personalities . This year, Daniel Richter was the patron of the artistic projects. According to a report by the tabloid newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost , 10,000 visitors were counted daily in 2008. Other reports confirm the number of at least 10,000 visitors and attest to the progress the festival has made in program and infrastructure since 2007.
2009
In 2009 the festival took place on the same site as in previous years from August 14th to 16th. Again there was a combination of music on the one hand and works by visual artists on the other. Headliners this year were MGMT , Turbonegro , The Whitest Boy Alive and the German bands Kettcar and Element of Crime . The Hamburger Abendblatt and the Norddeutsche Rundfunk reported 15,000 visitors on the second day of this year's festival, with which the festival achieved a visitor record, which occasionally led to logistical problems.
2010
In 2010 the MS Dockville Festival took place from August 13th to 15th. 111 bands and artists performed at the festival, including a. Klaxons , We Are Heroes , Jan Delay , Jamie T , Slime , New! , KIZ , The Drums , Jupiter Jones , Uffie , Portugal. The Man , We Were Promised Jetpacks , Frittenbude , Die Sterne , The Whip , Agnes Carlsson , Villagers and Die Vögel .
2011
The MS Dockville Festival 2011 took place from August 12th to 14th. Parts of the site could not be used for the festival due to construction work. The halls used in the previous year were also torn down. The MS Dockville restructured the festival area, using larger tents for the night program and other areas for the stages. The campsite was expanded and offered space for more than 8,000 campers. A total of almost 20,000 visitors a day visited the festival.
Due to storms and continuous rain in the days before the festival, the organizers and guests had considerable problems with the site. Visitors criticized, among other things, unpaved paths, insufficient sanitary facilities and long waiting times at the entrance area. The large tent stage in the engine room was closed by the organizers on Friday due to safety concerns. For the most part, the bands were relocated to free seasons on other stages. However, visitors criticized the lack of information about relocations and cancellations. The stage went back to operation on Saturday, but the tent had less visitor capacity due to a cordoned off area. The organizer apologized for the shortcomings in a press release after the festival. Around 150 bands and DJs performed at the festival, including a. Santigold , Editors , Crystal Castles , … And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead , The Bloody Beetroots , Johnossi , Marteria , Die Goldenen Zitronen , Kele , Kante , Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros , The Pains of Being Pure at Heart , Those Dancing Days , Noah and the Whale , Wild Beasts , Mount Kimbie , Andreas Dorau , Kollektiv Turmstrasse , Egotronic , DJ Phono , Bodi Bill , Hundreds and Kakkmaddafakka .
2012
The MS Dockville Festival 2012 took place from August 10th to 12th. This occurred u. a. Hot Chip , James Blake , Maxïmo Park , Tocotronic , Metronomy , Frittenbude , Prinz Pi , The Maccabees , WhoMadeWho , Le Fly, Dillon , Wye Oak , Dear Reader , Future Islands , Die Vögel and Retro Stefson .
2013
The MS Dockville Festival 2013 took place from August 16 to 18. In 2013 u. a. Foals , Mac Miller , The Lumineers , Woodkid , Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs , Kitty, Daisy & Lewis , Crystal Fighters , A-Trak , Baauer , Agnes Obel , DJ Koze , Wankelmut , Alle Farben and Die Orsons auf.
Church of Beer
For the cooperation with the Roskilde Festival , a "process-oriented, traveling sculpture" was created by 27 artists and active people. From June 30th, Jeremy Wade and Miguel Gutierrez from the MS Dockville art camp opened the building of the Church of Beers with an anti- church service , a memorial for the new belief system established there from empty beer cans . After the festival, the cans were reprocessed .
2017
The MS Dockville Festival 2017 took place from August 18th to 20th. In 2017 u. a. Flume , Moderat , AnnenMayKantereit , Mighty Oaks , Sohn , Mura Masa , Glass Animals , Oh Wonder , King Krule , SSIO , Mount Kimbie , Tale of Us , James Vincent McMorrow and Von Wegen Lisbeth auf.
2018
The MS Dockville Festival 2018 took place from August 17th to 19th. In 2018 u. a. Bonobo , Alt-J , Faber , Olli Schulz , Cigarettes after Sex , Querbeat , Leoniden , Trettmann , Princess Nokia , Drunken Masters , Granada and Everything Everything .
2019
In 2019 the MS Dockville will take place from August 16 to 18. Performances include Billie Eilish , RIN , Von Wegen Lisbeth , Bilderbuch , Jungle , Jon Hopkins , Parcels , Meute , Bausa , Aurora , Loyle Carner , Giant Rooks , Roosevelt , Monolink , HVOB , EX: RE , Two Feet , Boy Pablo , Tribulation , Nura , Juju , Eno , Ahzumjot and Mine on.
