Crystal Castles is an electrical band from Toronto , Canada .

history

In December 2003 Ethan Kath started the music project Crystal Castles. The band name comes from the 1980s TV series She-Ra : Princess of Power, a spin-off of the He-Man series. In April 2005, Alice Glass began singing to the music produced by Ethan Kath. The first EP Alice Practice was released in June 2006. It was limited to 500 copies and sold out after just three days. On March 18, 2008, the band's self-titled debut album was released in North America. It was released in the UK on April 28th. In 2010 it was voted number 39 of the best albums of the past decade by the British music magazine NME.

On May 24, 2010, the band's second album, also self-titled, was released. This was followed by an extensive tour through Europe and North America which u. a. also led to Germany's biggest festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park . The third album, III , was released in November 2012. The band toured Europe in the fall / winter.

In addition to in-house productions, the band often publishes remix versions of original titles by other artists. The band is known for their live performances, which are mainly characterized by the aggressive and chaotic nature of the singer Alice Glass. In addition to the synthesizer, Ethan Kath also uses the guitar. When the band performs live, the beats are not played by a drum computer , but by a drummer.

In October 2014, singer Alice Glass left the band. Ethan Kath was working on a new album in April 2015. On April 16, 2015, he released a new song called Frail under the name Crystal Castles. Edith Frances has been the band's new singer since 2015.

In October 2017, Alice Glass posted a statement on her official website regarding her departure from the band. In it, she accused co-founder Kath of mental, physical and sexual abuse, which began when Alice, then 15 years old, became a member of the band. The abuse took place until she left in 2014.
