The Pains of Being Pure at Heart is an American indie rock band from New York .
history
The band was founded in 2007 by Alex Naidus, Kip Berman, Kurt Feldman and Peggy Wang, the band name is taken from the title of a short story written by a friend of Berman. Originally intended as a fun project for Wang's birthday party, the band released a self-titled EP on the Painbow record label that same year . In the following time they played a large number of concerts, sometimes only in front of 3–5 people, and thus increased their level of awareness in the local scene. In addition, the band achieved increased awareness through web logs , such as an art blog for the New York Times . They gained international attention when Pitchfork Media reported on the band in the Best New Music category . In 2009 they finally released their first studio album The Pains of Being Pure at Heart , now on the larger label Slumberland Records . The album received mostly positive reviews from the international music press. This was followed by tours in America and Europe and the release of the EP Higher than the Stars . The third album Days of Abandon was released in 2014. The release of the new album "The Echo of Pleasure" was announced for July 14, 2017.
style
Stylistically, the band is often classified between twee pop and noise rock ; however, the band defends itself against such categorization.
