Moritz von Hößlin

Moritz Wilhelm Balthasar von Hößlin (born October 5, 1858 in Augsburg , † July 26, 1927 in Nuremberg ) was a Bavarian lieutenant general .

Life

family

Hößlin was Protestant and came from a noble family that had lived in Augsburg since the 17th century . He was the son of the Bavarian Colonel Moritz Wilhelm Balthasar von Hößlin (1808–1881) and his wife Frederike, born von Süsskind-Schwendi (1830–1882). On January 24, 1893, he married Ida Kirchhoffer in Augsburg (born November 9, 1869 in Würzburg ; † May 12, 1940 in Nuremberg). They had a daughter, Irmgard Fanny.

Military career

He began his military training as a page at the pagerie in 1872/78 . In 1878 he graduated from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich . He then joined the 4th Chevaulegers Regiment "King" of the Bavarian Army in his hometown as an ensign . There he became second lieutenant in 1880 , rose to Rittmeister by 1896 and as such was a riding instructor at the equitation institute. In 1904 Hößlin was a major in the 5th Chevaulegers Regiment "Archduke Friedrich of Austria" and in 1907 he became a lieutenant colonel and commander in the 1st Chevaulegers Regiment "Emperor Nikolaus von Russland" in Nuremberg. In this position, he was promoted to colonel in 1909 and appointed commander of the 5th Cavalry Brigade the following year .

From this post Hosslin was a major general after the start of World War I dismissed on 15 October 1914 and the disposition made. As the war progressed, he was appointed inspector of the replacement squadrons of the III. Army Corps used and 1918 with the character adopted as a lieutenant general finally retiring.
