Royal Bavarian 5th Chevaulegers Regiment "Archduke Friedrich of Austria"

The fifth Chevaulegers regiment "Archduke Frederick of Austria" was a cavalry joined the Bavarian army .

history

The association was established on December 6, 1775 by decree of the Elector Palatinate and later Elector of Bavaria Karl Theodor and set up on April 1, 1776 in Kreuznach as the "Leiningen" dragoon regiment of the Electoral Palatinate Army . It was formed from three companies Leib - Dragoons , two companies Pfalzgraf-Max-Reiter and three newly formed companies. Converted into a Chevaulegersregiment on August 1, 1788 , it led various numbers in the period that followed. From January 1, 1790 to February 26, 1799, No. 1 , then No. 4 until March 26, 1804 , then No. 3 and finally No. 5 from April 29, 1811 .

The last place of peace before the outbreak of the First World War was Sarreguemines .

Schleswig-Holstein survey 1848–1851

The regiment took part in the battles against Denmark in the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein on May 13, 1849 near Nim and on July 4, 1849 near Viborg .

German war

In the war against Prussia in 1866, the Chevaulegers fought in the Battle of Kissingen .

Franco-German War

During the Franco-Prussian War , the regiment was used in the battles near Weißenburg , Wörth and Sedan as well as the enclosure and siege of Paris .

Whereabouts

After the end of the First World War, the remnants of the regiment returned home, where the association was initially demobilized and finally dissolved in 1920.

The tradition took over in the Reichswehr by decree of the Chief of the Army Command General of the Infantry Hans von Seeckt from August 24th 1921 the training squadron of the 17th (Bavarian) Cavalry Regiment in Bamberg . In the Wehrmacht , the 1st Battalion of the 4th Panzer Regiment in Schweinfurt , and from March 1938 in Wiener Neustadt , continued them.
