Agnes Emilia Carlsson (born March 6, 1988 in Vänersborg ), often simply Agnes , is a Swedish singer who, since winning the Swedish TV casting show "Idol" on December 2, 2005, has 200,000 records in Sweden until 2008 and 3,000 worldwide , 000 records sold. With pop , R&B and dance music sung in English , she occupied the top positions in the Swedish charts . In summer 2009 she had her international breakthrough with Release Me . Her fourth studio album Veritas was released in September 2012 .

Life

Childhood, youth and idol

Carlsson was born on March 6, 1988 in Vänersborg . From a young age she sang and was interested in music. Later she was also in the school choir called Voice .

In the summer of 2005, she applied to the Swedish casting show Idol . She sang at the casting Varje gång jag ser dig by the Swedish singer Lisa Nilsson in Gothenburg . In the live shows she sang songs by Anastacia (I'm Outta Love), the Pointer Sisters ( I'm So Excited ) and Christina Aguilera ( Beautiful ), among others .

In the final on December 5, 2005, she sang the winning song Right Here, Right Now (My Heart Belongs to You) and Jennifer Brown's My Everything , with which she is also featured on the sampler My Own Idol , to which each finalist contributed a song . She finally won the final against Sebastian Karlsson with 57%. She then worked on her first album and was signed by Sony BMG . Right Here, Right Now (My Heart Belongs to You) was released a few days after winning. The song shot to the top of the Swedish charts a week later. It was awarded a total of double platinum for 40,000 copies sold.

2005–2007: the start of success

In 2007 Carlsson released her second album Stronger which came back to the top of the charts. From the album came the singles Kick Back Relax and Champion , both of which were successful and placed in the top 20 of the Swedish charts. In the UK , Stronger was also released but flopped and only sold 120 times. In 2007 she was on tour through Sweden again. At the end of 2007, Carlsson and the Swedish singer Måns Zelmerlöw released Mariah Carey's song All I Want for Christmas Is You , which reached number three in the Swedish charts. The title Love Is All Around was from the African singer Jody Williams gecovert . The Australian singer Ricki-Lee Coulter also covered the song and reached the top ten in Australia.

The German girl group No Angels covered two songs from the album Stronger in 2007 for their comeback album Destiny .

In 2008 Carlsson worked on her third album. The first single On and On came to number eight in the Swedish charts. In November 2008 the second single Release Me was released.

With Love Love Love she tried to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 , but failed in Stockholm at the final of the Swedish preliminary decision Melodifestivalen . The album Dance Love Pop came in at number five on the Swedish album charts. The album was then released again as Love Love Love Edition .

2009–2010: international breakthrough

Due to the success of the single Release Me , it was decided to release it internationally. From the album Dance Love Pop , the singles On and On and I Need You Now were released internationally, which were successful in large parts of Europe. Release Me was sold 700,000 times internationally. As a fifth and final single from Dance Love Pop was Sometimes I Forget selected which was published in March 2010 in France.

As a token of his love for Victoria of Sweden , Prince Daniel Westling let the well-known Swedish songwriter Jörgen Elofsson , who has also written number 1 hits for Britney Spears , Kelly Clarkson and Westlife , the song When You Tell the World You're Mine compose. Sung by Björn Skifs and Carlsson, the performance of the title was part of the wedding, which took place on June 19, 2010 in Stockholm and was broadcast worldwide. In the official Swedish charts, the song came to number 14 in the first week, the next week the single made it to number one.

2011: Fourth album Veritas

The album Veritas was released on September 5th in Sweden. The first single Don't Go Breaking My Heart was released in August 2011 . The second single One Last Time was released on May 28, 2012 and already reached number 33 in Sweden.

2013: Participation in TV shows

On May 16, 2013 Agnes performed in the 2nd semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with a medley of her songs One Last Time and Release Me in Malmö . She also took part in the music program Så mycket bättre on the Swedish private broadcaster TV4 . After successfully participating in this TV format, she released her greatest hits album Collection . There were also songs in Swedish on this album . The song En Sån Karl reached the top 10 in the Swedish charts.
