Idol is a Swedish talent competition broadcast on TV 4 . Since it first aired in August 2004, it has become one of the most popular shows on Swedish television. It comes from the worldwide license of the Briton Simon Fuller , from which the German branch Deutschland sucht den Superstar also comes.

The show aims to find the best singer in Sweden through national auditions . The winner will be chosen by televoting . The three judges Laila Bagge, Anders Bagge and Andreas Carlsson judge the performances. There were already many guests on the show, but most of them only stayed for one season; the moderator is Peter Jihde.

In the first seven seasons, the show won Daniel Lindström, Agnes Carlsson , Markus Fagervall, Marie Picasso , Kevin Borg, Erik Grönwall and Jay Smith . Smith was the oldest winner at 29 and Carlsson was the youngest at 17. By 2011, Idol had sold over 1,100,000 albums in Sweden alone.
