background

Production and title

After the decision to make a comeback together , the No Angels began in January 2007 with the recording of eight songs for their fourth studio album in the Sound N Studios in Cologne . Although the band members had written, composed and played their own songs, the quartet struggled to find a “red thread” between the different styles and it was decided to select only submitted songs “that simply go well with each other and create a well-rounded overall picture ". After a large number of promotional appearances as part of the announcement of their reunification, the No Angels finally returned to the recordings in mid-February to sing eight more songs; In the end, 13 out of 16 recorded songs made it onto the album's track list.

Although the band had discussed several names for the album, including New Beginning , Comeback , Reunion and Chapter Four , they finally decided on the title Destiny to show the emotional connection to the group: “It was really a fateful encounter for us, and Our whole life has changed since the day we went to the casting. It was a huge enrichment in our life that gave us an incredible number of perspectives that did not exist before ”. The title was inspired by an unreleased song called Destiny Calls .

One week after its release, the album went to number four in the German, number 14 of the Austrian and number 22 of the Swiss album charts. This makes Destiny the first regular studio album by the No Angels, which did not reach the top of the German sales charts straight away and was also unable to place in the top 10 in Austria and Switzerland. By mid-June 2007, Destiny had sold more than 30,000 times.

After the success in the Eurovision preliminary round, Universal Music released two more versions of the album; including the pure version including the previously unreleased single Disappear , as well as double-disc Destiny Reloaded with an additional DVD .

Criticism and reception

While Katja Scherle, reviewer of the online music magazine laut.de , praised the No Angels “for their singing skills” and unmistakable “joy in singing”, Anton Tsuji from CDstarts.de declared the record to be “a pretty mediocre album [by] itself Hiding a lot of filler material between a handful of good to acceptable songs ”. T-Online's “CD Reviews” section called Destiny a “no-bang comeback”, but also referred to the modern interpretation of solid pop music on the album in a positive sense .

music

In terms of style, the singers again offer pop music in 2007, combined with elements from the genres of rock , soul and dance. The ballads on the album are equipped with the stressed refrains typical of the No Angels . In terms of instrumentation, the arrangements differ, primarily through the use of strings and piano, compared to the band's music from 2001 to 2003.

The title Make a Change is an English version of the song Reste Encore by the French girl band L5 .
