chronology
Elle'ments Now ... Us! When the Angels Swing

Now ... Us! ( English for Jetzt… Wir! ) is the second studio album by the German pop band No Angels . The album was released in June 2002 and reached number one in the German album charts as a newcomer .

background

After the sales success of their debut album Elle'ments , the No Angels began recording their second studio album in February 2002. The lyrics and parts of the music for the pre- single Something About Us were written by band member Vanessa Petruo. The album features four other tracks, each written by a member of the band for the first time: Say Goodbye by Sandy Mölling, Stay by Lucy Diakovska, Shield Against My Sorrow by Jessica Wahls and Come Back by Nadja Benaissa. As with the first release, the producers Thorsten Brötzmann, Peter Ries and Tim Brettschneider were in charge of the production and arrangement .

Now ... Us! was the attempt of the five band members to cast off their casting show star image and to bring their music to the center of public interest. This positioning was strongly underlined by the chosen album name "Jetzt ... Wir!" After the successes and awards such as Bravo Otto , Comet and ECHO , the No Angels were very present in the media. There were also a number of reports and messages from the singers' private environment. The No Angels reflected and parodied these published rumors with the single Something About Us and the video for the title.

The album and the released singles were very successful, but could not catch up with the sales of the 2001 releases. In Germany, Now .. us! like its predecessor, it was number 1 in the album charts and was able to stay there for several weeks. In Austria and Switzerland the album reached the top 5, as well as a top ten placement in the European charts and in Hungary Now ... us! at number 65 on the charts. Overall, the album sold over 800,000 copies and the singles released from it sold over 500,000 copies. Musically and lyrically, the titles on the album are no longer as conventional and catchy as on their first album.

music

In terms of style, the album mainly consists of titles tailored to the market with pop music that contains typical elements from soul and rhythm and blues . Compared to the first album Elle'ments, the lyrics are less “love” heavy. The musical signature of the main producer Thorsten Brötzmann is clearly recognizable, comparable to Brötzmann's productions for Bro'Sis or Jeanette Biedermann .

Reviews

  • Joachim Gauger for laut.de : “The handwriting of (main) producer Thorsten Brötzmann can be heard everywhere […] While the version of“ Atlantis 2002 ”does not require any comment towards the end of the album, the new version of“ Like Ice In The Sunshine »almost an insolence. This track is as far removed from the otherwise average level of the record as Mousse T's rocky “Let's Go to Bed”. Because that's the only really strong song on “Now ... Us!”. "
  • Review on brainstorms42.de: “The biggest problem of the No Angels could be that the“ girls ”, as they are still often called, grow up too quickly. With “Something About Us” the album only has one safe single, the other songs are all good numbers, but they are nowhere near as catchy as the first release from the second album. [...] Therefore, what many have been predicting for some time could happen: failure to succeed and the resulting separation. "
  • ProSieben review: “Speaking of mass: of course the record is absolutely suitable for mass production. Put a little R'n'B in the big pop pot, a few dancers and choirs with powerful voices and the colorful pop cake is ready, which is sold like hotcakes among the population. It's hard to criticize, that's how the music business works these days. "
