chronology
- Elle'ments Now ... Us!

Elle'ments is the debut album by the German pop band No Angels . The LP was released in March 2001 and reached number one in the German, Austrian and Swiss album charts as a newcomer . With more than a million copies sold, seven gold and three platinum awards , the album is one of the most successful productions ever released by a German group.

background

After participating in the talent show Popstars , in which they emerged victorious, Nadja Benaissa , Lucy Diakovska , Sandy Mölling , Vanessa Petruo and Jessica Wahls started preparations for their first single in Munich in November 2000 . Accompanied by their already existing popularity through the casting show and by skillful marketing, combined with a large number of promotional appearances and interviews, the release of the pre-release single Daylight in Your Eyes on February 5, 2001 was a great success. The title reached number one in the German, Brazilian, Swiss and Austrian charts. In Germany the song became the most successful single of 2001 with over 1,000,000 copies sold.

With the album Elle'ments released in March 2001 , the No Angels were staged as a German version of the Spice Girls . As with the Spice Girls, each band member was given an image: With the No Angels, these attributions were based on the elements fire (Lucy), ice (Sandy), earth (Vanessa), air (Nadja) and spirit (Jessica).

In addition to the successful single Daylight in Your Eyes , twelve other pop titles were written and produced for the album. A large team of copywriters and musicians around the producers Thorsten Brötzmann, Peter Ries and Patrik Majer were involved. The entry of the No Angels project into the music industry was strategically planned and implemented by the management, which is quantitatively reflected in the sales figures for the album. In terms of quality, mainstream pop music was solidly tailored to the market, with little claim to profound lyrics.

music

In the overall impression of the album, the music of the No Angels can be compared with songs by the Spice Girls. The group moves stylistically across the typical pop areas. Ballads, gospel and guitar pop / rock songs alternate. Lyrically, the English sung titles do not correspond to the musical quality. Half-sentences, frequent repetitions in the chorus and the inflationary use of the topic “love” are in the foreground.

Reviews

  • Eberhard Dobler, Laut.de : “What else should be on the five chic girls who dance around our ears with chart-compatible teen pop à la Spice Girls and Britney Spears? 'Charting' is an understatement, to say the least. Because the women are currently breaking all sales records. Four producers have built the No Angels a musically easily digestible dance love star nest. No question about it, we are on an international pop level. "
  • Susanne Frömel, Berliner Zeitung : “Maybe such pop stars can't really touch you, but maybe that's not important at all. The 'No Angels' are doing a great show and you get the feeling that they are actually better than the musical format that is planned for them. They will probably go down the path of all girl bands at some point. For any one of them, reality and self-assessment will overlap and she will suddenly want to become an individual. "
  • ProSieben review: "Without a recognizable style of their own, without a recognizable line of their own,« Elle'ments »offers a collection of well-made pop songs, which unfortunately all too often fall back on tried-and-tested and therefore well-known knitting patterns [...] If this lack of independence of the Angels does not bother you, you can do so «Elle'ments» is undoubtedly a nice best-of-pop album enriched with all of the band's hits. But if you are looking for independence, authenticity and uniqueness, you have come to the wrong address with a drawing board band like the No Angels. "
